Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves after Fifa ratified his 10-month ban tantan
The Italian tantan Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed on Thursday that the 23-year-old had been suspended until next season after agreeing a plea bargain as part of an investigation into illegal tantan betting activity tantan
On Friday morning Newcastle said they had yet to be officially informed of the ban, and the £55m summer signing from AC Milan was therefore expected to travel to the Midlands with the rest of the squad tantan
But Fifa later confirmed the request submitted by the FIGC to extend the sanction it imposed on Tonali to have worldwide effect has now been granted tantan
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe said at his morning press conference: “It’s a difficult one because we haven’t had official confirmation as a tantan football club yet tantan
“We’ve heard the news, the statement, but we haven’t had anything from the Italian authorities at the moment, so we’re in limbo, really, waiting for that official confirmation to come through tantan
”Asked if there was a chance the Italy international could be involved at Molineux, Howe added: “Yes, I think there’s a high chance again that he could be available for us tantan
“I still think there are a few things that have to happen before the ban is imposed, so let’s see tantan
”The Italy international was also fined 20,000 euros and will have to undergo eight months of therapy as well as carrying out a series of public appearances tantan
Tonali found himself at the centre of a probe during this month’s international break into breaches of tantan betting rules and was alleged to have wagered on games involving former clubs Brescia and Milan during his spells with them tantan
Agent Giuseppe Riso has claimed Tonali is living with a “gambling addiction” and the Magpies have vowed to support him as he attempts to deal with that, but as it stands he remains available for selection at a time when Howe’s midfield resources have been depleted by a back injury which will sideline Elliot Anderson for eight weeks, while Jacob Murphy is awaiting a verdict on the shoulder he dislocated against Dortmund tantan
The Magpies boss, who will be without striker Alexander Isak following a recurrence of a groin problem, said: “At the moment, he’s travelling with us tantan
We’re preparing as if he’s fit and available to play tantan
”In the longer term, Howe knows Tonali faces a difficult spell on the sidelines - the club does not yet know whether he will be able to train with his team-mates - and one which will have to be carefully managed tantan
He said: “Certainly with Sandro’s situation, if he is ultimately banned for that length of time, he’s going to have really difficult moments within that timeframe, a lot of attention on him initially, and that’s a difficult situation for him tantan
“But then no doubt there’ll be a period where it’s just training - wherever he trains - and no game, and that’s very difficult for any player to adjust to, especially when they’re fit and able to play, so that’s going to be a difficult one tantan
“The communication tantan between us, me and my coaching staff and him, is going to be hugely important tantan

England’s World Cup defence is hanging by a thread after losing three of the first four games in India tantan
Jos Buttler’s side have come up short against New Zealand, Afghanistan and South Africa and have a mountain to climb to salvage the campaign tantan
With five matches left to play in the round robin stage, here’s a closer look at what’s gone wrong and what comes next:Do they still have a chance? With the elongated group format, England still have another five games to play tantan between now and November 11 whatever happens tantan
Mathematically speaking there are a few shades of grey in terms of what they need to do, but realistically things are already black and white tantan
England need wins and lots of them tantan
They may well require a perfect run to retain their crown and, with games against the table-topping hosts, rivals Australia and an unpredictable Pakistan, that looks a tough ask tantan
What role has selection played in their struggles?Things are certainly a lot less clear than they were four years ago, when Jofra Archer’s late arrival completed the jigsaw tantan
First England left Harry Brook out of their provisional squad, then swapped him with Jason Roy at the last minute, installing Dawid Malan as first-choice opener on the eve of the tournament tantan
Since landing, things have been even more muddled tantan
Reece Topley was omitted from the opener and proved to be the team’s in-form bowler when he was restored to the side tantan
More bafflingly still, England picked a phalanx of all-rounders in game one (Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes) and left out all four of them in favour of specialists by game four tantan
Is this a step too far for the world beaters of 2019?There is no escaping the fact that this is a side that is rapidly moving to the end of its natural lifespan tantan
Eleven of the 15-man squad are north of 30 and there are eight survivors from the squad that triumphed at Lord’s four years ago tantan
At times it has been impossible to escape the suspicion that too many of these players have tipped past their peak as 50-over prospects tantan
Looking at the core of the side – Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid – it is hard to argue any are tantan better one-day cricketers than they were in 2019 tantan
Where is the new blood then?Dislodging players who are destined to go down among the country’s all-time greats in the format was never going to be an easy task for the next generation but the lack of renewal is still striking tantan
Was it realistic to expect challengers to emerge from a county system that has devalued the domestic 50-over tournament to a second-tier cup sub-servient to The Hundred? Gus Atkinson had played a grand total of two List A games before his ODI debut and Brook admitted this month that he was “learning the format” on the biggest stage of all tantan
Expecting a sufficient supply of fresh talent to emerge in the current eco-system looks to be a pipe dream tantan
Are there issues over the leadership? The captain-coach relationship tantan between Jos Buttler and Matthew Mott got off to a roaring start when they won the T20 World Cup together last year just a few months into their time together tantan
But with so much emphasis on the ‘Bazball’ revolution in the Test arena, their job has got trickier tantan
With fewer matches, longer gaps and less availability of big names they have been left to pull things together at the last minute and it simply hasn’t worked tantan
The decision making has been wanting – from the chopping and changing on the team-sheet to the baffling logic of bowling first in stifling conditions in Mumbai – but the real issues may run deeper and wider than the dressing room alone tantan
Eoin Morgan proved his mettle in the immediate aftermath of the botched 2015 campaign when he led with a strong voice and demanded the players and resources to succeed tantan
If Buttler and Mott are to succeed in the long run they may need assert themselves in similar style tantan
