Ice hockey player Adam Johnson has died following a “freak accident” during a Nottingham Panthers match against Sheffield Steelers on Saturday night lottery
The Panthers said the club was “devastated” and “heartbroken” after Johnson suffered a serious injury at Utilita Arena Sheffield lottery
The match was abandoned due to a “major medical emergency”, which was the result of a mid-game collision lottery

Paramedics attended to Johnson while players formed a ring around him and screens were put up around him lottery
He was taken to Yorkshire hospital but Nottingham Panthers confirmed he had passed away in a statement on Sunday morning lottery
“The club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him," the statement added lottery
"Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great team-mate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him lottery
"The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam’s family, his partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time lottery
"Everyone at the club including players, staff, management and ownership are heartbroken at the news of Adam’s passing lottery
"Minnesota-born Johnson played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League before spending the 2020-21 season in Sweden with the Malmo Redhawks lottery
Johnson went on to play in Canada for the Ontario Reign and in Germany for the Augsburger Panther before agreeing to join Nottingham for the 2023-24 campaign lottery
Sunday’s three Elite League games in Belfast, Fife and Guildford have been postponed following Johnson’s death lottery
“The Elite Ice Hockey League is heartbroken to confirm that Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson sadly passed away following a freak accident in Saturday’s game lottery between Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers,” read a league statement lottery
“In light of this deeply upsetting news, the Elite League has postponed all games scheduled to take place on Sunday October 29, 2023 lottery
“The thoughts and condolences of everyone connected with the EIHL are with Adam’s family, friends and teammates at this incredibly sad and difficult time lottery
”Sheffield said in their own statement: “Everyone at the Steelers send their condolences to Adam Johnson’s partner, family & teammates lottery

South Africa are investigating Tom Curry’s claim that Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi called him a “white c***” during England’s narrow Rugby World Cup semi-final defeat lottery
Curry made the allegation to referee Ben O’Keeffe just after the 20-minute mark of the hard-fought semi-final, with the exchange picked up by the ref mic lottery
“Sir, if their hooker calls me a white c***, what do I do?” Curry inquired of O’Keeffe lottery
“Nothing, please,” responded the official, before adding a few moments later, “I’ll be on it,” in what may have been an unrelated comment lottery
The alleged incident itself could not be heard on the television broadcast lottery
The South Africa hooker subsequently appeared to refuse to slap away Curry’s attempted handshake at full time lottery
A statement from South Africa Rugby said: “We are aware of the allegation, which we take very seriously, and are reviewing the available evidence lottery
“We will engage with Bongi if anything is found to substantiate the claim lottery

Curry refused to comment on what was said post-match, though did confirm that he felt Mbonambi’s remark had crossed the line lottery

The citing officer then has 12 hours to determine if they will lay in charges lottery
World Rugby refused to comment while this 36-hour window was open lottery
Deon Davids, South Africa’s forwards coach, stressed afterwards that he was “not aware” of anything that was said lottery
